This Financial District project for Moto Oba captures the essence of modern Zen design — functional, minimal, and deeply personal. The handcrafted build combines a loft bed, closet, large desk, and bookcase into a seamless modular structure that transforms a compact Lower Manhattan apartment into a complete living system.

Moto wanted a unified space that reflected simplicity and calm while providing significant storage and workspace. The design needed to align with a minimalist aesthetic without losing warmth or craftsmanship.

To meet the client’s need for balance and order, the team created a modular system that flows naturally within the space. The loft structure integrates with built-in cabinetry and a full-length desk, maximizing storage while maintaining an open feel. Every line was designed to convey simplicity and precision — reflecting Zen Space Makers’ commitment to purposeful design.
The project combines premium-grade plywood and solid hardwoods, finished with natural tones to complement the apartment’s modern interiors. Each piece was hand-finished and assembled in Zen Space Makers’ Brooklyn workshop, ensuring durability and timeless appeal.
The challenge was to integrate multiple functions — sleeping, storage, and working — within a limited footprint without crowding the room. Through clean geometry and subtle detailing, the final design achieved visual harmony and practicality.
The result is a calm, elevated living environment that reflects both craftsmanship and mindfulness. The modular design offers flexibility for city living while preserving the quiet elegance of a handcrafted Zen interior.
